Gelo is a professional networking and discovery platform that helps users connect with like-minded people, professionals, and communities in real-world and digital environments.

This Privacy Policy is intended to help you understand what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, when we share it, how long we retain it, and the choices and rights available to you under applicable data protection and privacy laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 of India and other applicable laws in the jurisdictions in which we operate.

If we become aware that a user has misrepresented their age, or that we have collected personal data from a person under the age of 18 in violation of this Privacy Policy or applicable law, we may suspend or terminate the relevant account and take steps to delete the associated personal data in accordance with applicable law.

4. Personal Data We Collect

We may collect the following categories of personal data depending on how you use Gelo and the permissions you grant to us.

4.1 Information You Provide Directly

a. Account Registration and Login Information

When you create or access an account, we may collect:

  • your mobile number;

  • your email address;

  • login and authentication details associated with your account, including OTP-based verification records where applicable.

Certain profile fields may be requested during profile creation or onboarding. In some cases, a user may be permitted to skip completion of a profile field once; however, continued use of the Service or access to certain features may require such information to be completed at a later stage.

c. Optional / Additional Profile Information

We may also collect additional profile information that you choose to provide, including:

  • your full name, if provided separately within your profile;

  • professional, educational, or interest-based information;

Gelo may collect location information if you grant the relevant device permissions and use location-enabled features within the app.

b. In-App Discoverability Toggle

Granting system-level location permission does not automatically make your profile visible to other users.

Gelo provides an additional in-app control that allows you to choose whether you want to be discoverable to other users. If you enable this in-app discoverability setting, Gelo may use your location information to show your profile to other users in accordance with the functionality of the Service. If you turn this setting off, your profile will not be shown to other users through location-based discovery features, and you may also be unable to discover other users through those features.

c. How Location Data Is Used

Where enabled by you, location information may be used to:

  • enable nearby user discovery and networking functionality;

  • show relevant profiles, spaces, communities, or opportunities;

7. Legal Basis / Grounds for Processing

We process your personal data:

  • with your consent, including where you voluntarily provide data, complete your profile, enable permissions, opt into discoverability features, or use features that require such data; and/or

  • where processing is otherwise permitted or required under applicable law, including for compliance with legal obligations, prevention or detection of fraud or unlawful activity, enforcement of our terms, security of the Service, responding to grievances or disputes, and other lawful purposes recognised under applicable law.

Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw such consent as described in this Privacy Policy. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to such withdrawal.

8. Profile Visibility and Information Shared with Other Users

Gelo is a networking and discovery platform, which means certain information from your profile may be visible to other users of the Service.

Depending on how the Service functions and the settings available to you from time to time, other users may be able to see information such as:

  • your first name or profile name;

  • your profile photograph(s);

  • your occupation, professional role, company, workplace, or educational information, where provided;

  • your bio, interests, and other profile details you choose to display;

  • your social media handles or profile links that you choose to add to your profile;

  • distance or approximate location information, where location permissions are enabled and the relevant discoverability feature is turned on by you.

If you turn off the relevant discoverability or visibility setting within the app, your profile may no longer be shown to other users through certain location-based discovery features, and you may also lose access to certain corresponding discovery functionality.

You should exercise caution when choosing what information to include in your profile or share with other users. Any content, profile details, or information you voluntarily make visible to others through the Service may be viewed, accessed, copied, or used by other users, subject to our platform rules and technical controls.

We do not currently display last active status or online status to other users unless expressly stated in the app.

Gelo may offer paid subscriptions, premium features, or in-app purchases from time to time. As of the date of this Privacy Policy, such offerings may include plans such as Silver, Gold, Discovery, and Discovery Spotlight, or similar offerings as updated from time to time.

We may receive limited information necessary to activate and manage your access to the purchased feature or subscription.

The pricing, duration, features, and renewal terms of subscriptions may change from time to time and will be communicated through the app or the relevant app marketplace listing, as applicable.

Where necessary for event administration or where disclosed to you at the time of registration, we may share relevant registration or attendee information with the applicable event organiser or partner for purposes such as event administration, attendee management, access control, support, event-related communication, and other event-related operational purposes.

Depending on the nature of the event or partnership, this may include information such as your name, email address, mobile number, professional information, ticket or registration status, and other information submitted by you in connection with the relevant event.

In other cases, Gelo may share aggregated, anonymised, or de-identified event analytics and engagement insights with event organisers, venues, hosts, or partners, including information relating to registrations, attendance, profile categories, networking outcomes, usage trends, or other event-performance metrics.

Where required by applicable law or by our internal event-registration flows, we will provide an appropriate notice or obtain your consent before sharing your registration details with the relevant event organiser or partner.

Your personal data may be processed, stored, accessed, or transferred in India and in other countries where Gelo, its affiliates, or its service providers operate.

Where personal data is transferred outside India, we will take steps to ensure that such transfer is carried out in accordance with applicable law, including any restrictions or conditions notified under Indian law from time to time.

By using the Service and providing your personal data, you acknowledge that your data may be processed in jurisdictions other than the one in which you reside, subject to applicable safeguards and legal requirements.

12. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as it is required for the purposes for which it was collected, or as otherwise required or permitted under applicable law.

12.1 Active account data

We retain personal data associated with your account for as long as your account remains active and such data is necessary to provide the Service to you.

12.2 Deleted accounts

If you delete your account, we will take steps to delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, subject to any legal, regulatory, accounting, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or security-related retention requirements.

In certain cases, some data may be retained for a limited period after deletion where necessary to:

  • comply with legal obligations;

  • process refunds, chargebacks, or financial records;

  • investigate abuse, fraud, or security incidents;

  • enforce our rights or resolve disputes;

  • prevent banned or abusive users from re-registering where permitted by law.

12.3 Inactive accounts

We may suspend, archive, anonymise, or delete inactive accounts and associated data where such data is no longer required for the purposes for which it was collected, subject to applicable legal and operational requirements.

12.4 Logs, diagnostics, moderation, and compliance records

Technical logs, support records, moderation records, and legal/compliance records may be retained for longer periods where reasonably necessary for safety, platform integrity, legal compliance, or business continuity.

13. Your Rights and Choices

Subject to the laws applicable to your location and our processing of your personal data, you may have certain rights in relation to your personal data, including the right to access, correct, update, erase, restrict or object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and seek information regarding how your personal data is processed:

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials, devices, and OTP access methods, and for notifying us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

If we become aware of a personal data breach or security incident affecting your personal data, we may investigate, take remedial and containment measures, and provide any notifications required under applicable law to affected users and/or competent authorities, as applicable.
